The 'Lost Girls', the narrative feature debut of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Liz Garbus, has replaced its lead actor Sarah Paulson with Amy Ryan, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The series, a true-crime story, will now be with Netflix, instead of Amazon Studios, as earlier conceived.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'Lost Girls' follows the story of Mari Gilbert (essayed by Ryan), who is searching for her missing daughter, trapped between law enforcement agents and the convoluted mystery of unsolved murders of young female sex workers on the South Shore barrier islands of Long Islands.

Interestingly, Ryan had played a role along similar lines in the film 'Gone Baby Gone', which earned an Academy Award nomination and several other recognitions.

The series is an adaptation of Robert Kolker's novel of the same name. Michael Werwie is the scriptwriter along with Anna Carey of Archer Gray and Kevin McCormick of Langley Park Pictures as producers.

'What Happened, Miss Simone?', the documentary which got Garbus her Emmy, was a Netflix original too.
