Station Approach, Manchester, a painting by LS Lowry has been sold for 2.3 million pounds at a sale of modern and post-war British art at Sotheby's auction house.
Believed to be Lowry's one of the "most exciting works", the painting was done in 1960 and portrays a view outside the London and North Western Railway Exchange Station, the BBC reported.
Frances Christie, Sotheby's spokeswoman said that the late English artist was a master at depicting the liveliness of a daily life, and he really captured the everyday hustle and bustle of the crowds in the painting.
Earlier in March, a total of 13 paintings by Lowry were sold at auction for more than 15 million pounds.
