Lucknow Police arrest three for allowing dogs to eat dead body in hospital

Police in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday confirmed the arrest of three persons for allowing dogs into the mortuary of the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital to eat a dead woman's body.

Lucknow Police said that ward boy Islam, securitty guard Pawan Mishra and supervisor Ashish Mishra had been arrested, and added that another accused supervisor, Pawan Singh, is yet to be taken into custody.

Police said that the three accused have been arrested under Section 297 and Section 404 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police said that the arrest of the accused was on grounds of gross negligence by hospital authorities.

 

It is being reported that the woman, who had died of food poisoning, had been kept in the government hospital mortuary for conducting of a post mortem.

However, owing to mismanagement and poor infrastructure, the body was eaten by stray dogs. So badly was it mauled that it could no longer be recognized.

The woman, who was admitted to the hospital on Saturday, died while undergoing treatment. The body was later shifted to the hospital morgue.

Hospital Director Devendra Singh Negi said that stringent action will be taken against the staff for their irresponsibility. Negi added that any other person found guilty in the incident too will be punished.
