Ahead of the civic elections in Punjab's Ludhiana, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday expelled six leaders from the party over "anti-party activities".

"Harpreet Singh Bedi, Veeran Bedi, Gurdeep Singh Leel, Gurpal Singh Kohli, Sohan Singh Goga and Kulwinder Kaur Goga have been expelled from the party on grounds of anti-party activities," said SAD leader Maheshinder Singh Grewal.

Harpreet Singh Bedi, a candidate in Ward number 72, allegedly fielded his wife from Ward number 73 as an independent candidate against the Bharatiya Janata Party's official candidate even after he got the SAD ticket to contest the polls.

The SAD has now extended its support to Ravinder Kaushiq (Happy) as its candidate from ward 72, added the party leader.
