English golf ace Luke Donald has strengthened his chances of claiming a first win of the year on the European circuit by recording six successive birdies in a second round 66 at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai on Friday.
The former world number one, winner of the European and US money lists in 2011, was four shots behind overnight leader Alejandro Canizares as the late starters reached the turn.
According to Sport24, Donald went on a birdie blitz from the second to rocket up the leaderboard under overcast skies, after bogeying the first hole, and ended the day at the Earth course in Jumeirah Golf Estates with a five-under aggregate of 139 at the halfway stage.
Donald, 17th in the world rankings following a barren European Tour campaign, split with long-time swing coach Pat Goss earlier this year and recruited Chuck Cook as a replacement in a bid to lengthen his driving, the report added.
