Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday offered to adopt one village for rehabilitation in flood affected Uttarakhand.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the Madhya Pradesh government would like to adopt one village for rehabilitation as directed by Uttarakhand government.

Flash floods and landslides unleashed by early monsoon rains have claimed over 1,000 lives in Uttarakhand and left tens of thousands missing while the death toll is expected to rise .

Meanwhile, the last ditch efforts are on to evacuate about 900 people from Badrinath amid overcast conditions at some places in Uttarakhand where authorities are grappling with the task of extricating bodies from under tonnes of debris lying in Kedarghati for their cremation.

Despite bad weather at places including Dehradun, chopper operations began this morning in Chamoli district to evacuate about 300 pilgrims and 600 locals from Badrinath shrine to Joshimath from where they will be brought further down by road.
