The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday stayed a two-day event organised by spiritual leader and founder of Art of Living (AOL) Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district.

The event was scheduled to begin from today at Brihadisvara temple, which is a UNESCO world heritage site.

The AOL had got permission to conduct spiritual classes on December 7 and 8 in the temple.

A two-judge bench of Justice K K Sasidharan and Justice P.D. Audikesaavalu stayed the event after a PIL was filed seeking cancellation of permission granted to organise a private event at a place of worship.

The matter will now be heard on December 10.
