Maharashtra Govt. 'insensitive' towards rape cases: Congress

ANI New Delhi

The Congress Party on Sunday alleged that the Maharashtra Government was insensitive towards the rape cases and demanded that the police official, who had asked the victim in the state's Jalna town to meet the offenders as part of the trap, should be sacked with immediate effect.

Congress leader Shobha Oza, who was reacting to the alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl twice in the state's Jalna town, said this shows what kind of governance is there in Maharashtra.

"When a rape happens and the police to catch the culprits again lays a trap yet the girl is raped and the police proves to be incompetent, this clearly shows the insensitivity of the government and the police towards rape cases," said Oza.

"In fact, accountability has to be fixed and the police officers, who came up with such idea and failed, should be sacked immediately and the culprit arrested at the earliest," she added.

The 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped for the second time by the same offenders when the police, to set a trap, asked her to meet the culprits.

The authorities have suspended Assistant Police Inspector (ASI) Vinod Ejjapwar following the incident, which took place last evening.

According to reports, the two alleged rapists have been arrested.
