Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Thursday hit out at the Prithviraj Chavan-led government in Maharashtra and called for a Congress-free India.
"Shivaji had given the call for 'Swaraj' once upon a time; today the second campaign of Congress-free India will begin from Maharashtra. I am confident that the campaign of Congress-free India will begin from Maharashtra and its effect will reach in all corners of India whether it is in the states of north, east and south," Shah said while addressing a party gathering here.
He added that the people of Maharashtra are ready to throw away the corrupt government, which has ruled the state for 15 years.
According to reports, Shah will chalk out the BJP's strategy for the upcoming assembly polls in Maharashtra during his visit.
Shah, who arrived in Mumbai for the first time following his elevation as the party chief, will interact with party workers and boost their morale.
The BJP leaders in Maharashtra are hopeful that Shah's visit will build up confidence amongst the party cadres.
The mood in the BJP camp is upbeat following its good show in the Lok Sabha elections and it would hope to win more seats with the Shiv Sena, its ally, in the state assembly polls.
