Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who was shot by the Taliban last year for demanding education for girls, has received the Tipperary International Peace Award in Ireland in tribute to her courage.

In her acceptance speech, Malala called on governments around the world to change laws that discriminate against women and girls, the Daily Star reports.

According to the report, the 16-year-old, who is now studying at school in the UK, is also a nominee for this year's Nobel Peace Prize.
