Malaysia's transport minister has reportedly said that he was unable to rule out that some of the passengers onboard the missing Malaysia Airline jet remained alive.

The statement was made soon after an Australian navy ship traced the final contact signal emitted by the jet to the same point in the Indian Ocean, where the jet is believed to have crashed.

Hishamuddin Hussein told a media briefing in Kuala Lumpur that miracles do happen, adding that he continued to hope and pray for survivors, News.com.au reported.

Urging Malaysians to unite in their prayers and not give up hope, Hishamuddin said that investigators were cautiously hopeful that there would be more news within days, if not hours.
