A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh, demanding a probe into the Malda violence incident.
"People are living in fear, which is a failure of the government. The state government has till date not taken any action on the incident. It is trying to shield the truth and destroy evidences. It requires an investigation by the Home Ministry," BJP MP Bhupendra Yadav told the media here.
Echoing similar sentiments, another BJP MP Kailash Vijayvarghiya said, "We have apprised the Home Minister of the Malda incident and requested him for a high level investigation into matter. This is not only a matter of the state, but also of the nation's security."
The delegation also apprised the Home Minister of the law and order situation in the state.
The BJP has accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of backing the Malda violence perpetrators. They further accused that the violence in Malda was not a communal incident but a planned attack.
The TMC has, however, accused the BJP of spreading communal venom ahead of the state assembly polls this year.
