West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday congratulated senior Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar, who will take oath as the Bihar Chief Minister on February 22.
"I had congratulated Nitish ji on 7 February, 2015. Let me congratulate him again today," Banerjee tweeted.
According to reports, the TMC chief had earlier called up Nitish over the political crisis in Bihar and conveyed her assurance to fight with him if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tried to impose President's rule in the state.
The JD (U) and BJP had parted ways prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls
Earlier this evening, Nitish met Bihar Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi at the Raj Bhavan in Patna and staked claim to form the next government in the state.
The latest political development follows the resignation of Jitan Ram Manjhi from the top post, ahead of the crucial trust vote in the state assembly.
Nitish, who is set to take over as the chief minister of Bihar for the fourth time, has been asked by the Bihar Governor to prove his majority in the state assembly on March 16.
