West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the latter's official 7, Race Course Road (RCR) residence here on Wednesday and sought financial assistance for the post flood reconstruction work in the state.
"In the meeting with the Prime Minister, we discussed about West Bengal's flood issue. We have suffered a loss of 30,000 crore rupees. We have given a list, detailing 21,000 crore rupees worth of flood loss, to the Prime Minister," Banerjee told the media here.
"The flood fund of nearly 660 crores that was present in the state beforehand has been spent on the relief materials. We have completed the relief work, now we will start the restoration work. It's not certain yet that the flood has ended," she added.
Banerjee further stated that she used the occasion to discuss that Prime Minister Modi should chair an exclusive meeting of Niti Aayog on all subjects in which all Chief Ministers will be present.
"We can discuss the projects like BRGF that has been closed, 50 percent cut in ICDS, universal education system has been closed, modernization of police forces, LWE area fund that has been closed," she said.
She mentioned that the Prime Minister has given a positive assurance, saying he will try to help.
"There is a Look East Policy, in which a business proposal has been given for Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and India. If new infrastructure is provided, then in the future, the relation among these states will flourish," she added.
