Mamata pays tribute to Netaji Bose on 69th Independence Day

West Bengal celebrated the 69th Independence Day on Saturday in a befitting manner in the presence of the state's Governor, Kesrinath Tripathi, and Chief MInister Mamata Banerjee.

While Governor Tripathi offered floral tribute at the martyrs column at Barakpur Gandhi Ghat on Saturday morning, Chief Minister Banerjee offered floral tribute before a statue of freedome fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose near Raj Bhawan.

Banerjee hoisted the national tricolour at the Indira Gandhi Sarani in Kolkata and took salute at a ceremonial parade.

She also presented police medals to eight state police officials.

Tableaux representing various departments of the state government and hundreds of school children also took part in the parade.

 

Members of the State Cabinet, Consular corps, and other distinguished guests were present at the function.

The day is also observed as the birth anniversary of Aurobindo.
