West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday expressed hope that the people celebrate both Rath Yatra and Eid-ul-Fitr with peace and unity.

"Today morning we had Eid celebrations going on and now I have come to offer my prayers for the Jagannath yatra. I hope this procession takes place in peace. I would like to greet everyone on the occasion of the Jagannath yatra. I hope everyone across the country celebrates both the occasions with peace and unity," she told the media here after offering prayers at the Iskcon temple on the occasion of Lord Jagannath's 138th Rath Yatra.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings on the occasion.

"Wishing everyone on the auspicious occasion of the Rath Yatra. Jai Jagannath," the Prime Minister tweeted.

Lord Jagannath's chariot left the temple today morning and will return late evening after covering 14 km.
