In the wake of the recent arrest of West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra by the CBI in the Saradha chit-fund scam case, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday claimed that members of her party are being sent to jail as part of a political vendetta.

"These days it is very easy to put one behind bars. These days' people are now being sent to jail for political reasons now and not based on performance. Therefore, there is a political vendetta that is going on, no one knows who would be sent to jail next. If someone goes to jail for a crime, then there is nothing to lament. If an honest person is sent to jail, then it is sad," Banerjee told a gathering here.

Earlier today, Saradha scam accused Kunal Ghosh claimed that Banerjee was the biggest beneficiary in the Saradha scam case.

Earlier this month, West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra, who was arrested in connection with the scam, was sent to judicial custody till January 2, 2015.

Last Month, TMC MP Srinjoy Bose had also been arrested by the CBI in connection with the scam.
