Manchester City believes it has won the battle to sign Porto's Fernando this summer, and that too, for free.
According to the Daily Star, coach Manuel Pellegrini tried to land the midfielder before the January transfer window closed, but the Portuguese club then demanded eight million pounds.
Fernando, 26, has a complicated contract and ownership agreement, and City has reportedly been told he will be a free agent come the summer.
Porto is reportedly trying to convince the defensive mid?elder to sign a new 50,000 pound-a-week deal with them, but so far, Fernando has refused to do so.
Fernando is also wanted by Manchester United, Liverpool and Juventus, but Manchester City is privately claiming he wants to join them.
