Manchester United put on a commanding display to reach the last 16 of the Champions League in their Group A clash against German side Bayer Leverkusen, whom they whitewashed 5-0 at BayArena on Wednesday.

The scoreline represented United's biggest away win in Europe since a 6-1 demolition of Borussia Dortmund in 1964 and it was also the biggest winning margin by an English side in Germany since the Champions League was launched in 1992.

According to the BBC, United's Antonio Valencia scored the first hit in the 22nd minute, following which Leverkusen's Emir Spahic scored an own goal from eight minutes later.

Jonny Evans then turned in from a corner in the 65th minute, followed by a goal from Chris Smalling in the 77th minute, after which Nani scored the winner in the 88th minute.

The report mentioned that the victory mean that David Moyes' side has reached the latter stages of the Champions League at his first attempt with the club, who extended their unbeaten run to 11 games and topped their group.
