Manchester United star goalkeeper David De Gea is reportedly sill refusing to commit himself to a new contract at the club, which has left them facing a 'worst-case' scenario as the Spaniard could leave the Old Trafford outfit for nothing next summer.

United are now in genuine fears that they could lose De Gea for a fraction of his real worth this summer, or he might even walk away from the club for nothing when his current deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of next season.

A United insider said that De Gea's contract has turned into the worst-case scenario, adding that there has been no indication that the Spaniard would sign a new contact and at some point a decision would have to be made when to cash in on him, The Mirror reported.

The insider said that when a player enters the final 12 to 18 months of his contract, his value begins to drop dramatically. He added that there's talk of De Gea being worth 50 million pounds, but insisted that that is unrealistic given there is probably only one club the Spaniard would sign for.

Real Madrid's interest in the player has cast a cloud over United's attempts to get the former Atletico Madrid keeper to pen a long-term extension, the report added.
