Football giants Manchester City and Premier League champions Manchester United have been slammed by irate customers for hiking their prices and charging more than 100 pounds for children's kits and outfits made by Nike.

It is the first time the total price of a shirt, shorts, socks, badges and printed names has broken the100 pound-barrier, The Sun reports.

According to a City season ticket holder, he had tried to pre-order the club's new kit for his 11-year old daughter and found that it would cost 109 pounds, adding that the hike is ridiculous despite both the clubs investing large amounts of cash into their teams.

However, a City spokesman said that the cost reflects the value to the consumer through design, innovation, development, manufacturing and retailing.

According to the report, this is Nike's first City strip after the club signed a six-year deal worth 72 million pounds.

Champions United get 23.5 million pounds a year from their agreement with Nike, which expires after next season, the report added.
