A five-day long winter carnival held here, concluded with much fanfare.
Tourists from India and abroad visited the carnival in huge numbers that concluded on January 6.
The main aim of the carnival was to give a fillip to tourism and promote culture. Over 25 dance teams came from different states of India and cultural performances enthralled the audiences.
"The main aim of the carnival was to promote tourism. The carnival was not being held for last few years but this time the government took a good decision and from now on the winter carnival will be held from January 2 to January 6, every year. By fixing theses dates, tourists not only from India but abroad will be informed about the carnival in advance. So they can plan according to the dates," said member of carnival organising committee, Dharamvir Dhami.
Tourists who arrived in the hill town for New Year celebrations, extended their programme to enjoy the carnival.
"I think it is great for the local people, they are all enjoying themselves and is very good for tourism. But now it is very light in the season so not many tourists here but I think lighter season is better because I think Manali is more real," said a tourist from England, Robert.
People were also seen enjoying the cold weather conditions in Manali.
