The Africa Rising Foundation has warned the public about an internet scam that illegally uses the name of former president Nelson Mandela's grandson Ndaba to demand money in lieu of membership fees.

The foundation said Proudly South African contacted the Nelson Mandela Foundation about the suspicious nature of two Facebook pages relating to the membership drive, News24 reports.

According to the report, the scammers were asking people to send an e-mail to a specific address, which is a fake Ndaba's email, to request membership forms in order to join the foundation, and then deposit money at specific supermarkets and e-mail them the deposit code.

Ndaba Mandela, who is the foundation's chief, appealed the public to report it to the police in case they have paid any money, and said that they have already filed a criminal case.
