A National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN)-IM militant and a civilian were killed in an encounter between the 5/2 Gurkha Regiment and the banned outfit on Thursday at Khoupum old village in Manipur's Noney district.
The incident took place around the wee hours of Thursday when the regiment was carrying out a search operation in the village.
The gunbattle continued for around 45 minutes.
Earlier, police had said that the encounter took place in Tamenglong district.
Earlier this week, a security personnel got injured when suspected militants fired at a police party in Tamenglong district.
