Manipur's UPPK insurgent group surrenders to join national mainstream

All members of the United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) insurgent group surrendered before authorities in Imphal on Friday.ddressing a press conference, Principal Secretary (Home) of the Manipur Government Suresh Babu said the rebels, numbering about 78, have handed over 38 sophisticated weapons, including AK Assault Rifles and a few thousand rounds of ammunition of different weapons at a programme.

A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Imphal by the insurgent outfit United People's Party of Kangleipak(UPPK) with state Government and the Centre.

State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, top officials of civil and police attended the ceremony of the signing of MoU.
