Congress Party leader Manish Tewari said that the Bhartiya Janta Party is underscoring their undemocratic spirits by the manner in which they are treating governors.

Manish Tewari told ANI, "The manner in which governors are being arm twisted by the Bhartiya Janata Party only underscores their undemocratic spirit."

"After having gone to court in 2004 against the replacement of some governors, and legitimately so by the UPA Government, their actions fly in the face of the Constitution bench judgment which was rendered in Dixit's matter. Therefore, BJP has totally has disrespected both the letter of the law and the spirit of the Supreme Court judgment," he added.

Nagaland Governor Vakkom B Purushothaman resigned on Friday after the NDA Government ordered his shift from Mizoram.

Purushothaman was shifted to Nagaland after the government had transferred Gujarat Governor Kamala Beniwal to Mizoram on July 6. He was also handed additional charge of the office of Governor of Tripura.
