Manish Tiwari meets China's Information Minister

Information and Broadcasting Minister, Manish Tiwari had discussions with the visiting Chinese information broadcasting minister, Cai Fuchao here this morning.

They discussed media, entertainment industries and cinema The Chinese Minister was accompanied by a delegation.

The high level Chinese delegation discussed the steps to increase cooperation in the field of media, entertainment industries and cinema, between India and China.

Later in the day, the two would attend the inaugural ceremony of the Chinese Film Festival 2013.

Along with Tewari and Cai, the legendary Chinese actor, Jackie Chan, and ambassador of China to India, Wei Wei, would also be present on the occasion, followed by the screening of the film 'Chinese Zodiac'.

 

Media has played a vital role during the conflicts between India and China ever since India became independent in 1947 and a leader of the non-aligned movement.

There was strain between the two countries following the Chinese agression in 1962. Ever since then an uneasy situation has been prevailing along the India-China border.

Recently, the two countries were involved in a renewed border stand-off . The incident was resolved after several rounds of negotiations-military and diplomatic-and both sides reverted to the position that existed before April 15.

The incursions by Chinese troops was also discussed during the visit to India of Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang on May 19 and it was decided that efforts would be made to seek a framework for a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement .

China is India's biggest trading partner and the two countries aim to increase their bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2015.

According to figures released by the Chinese trade ministry, last year the bilateral trade stood at 66.47 billion U.S. dollars with India's trade deficit mounting to 28.87 billion U.S. dollars.

The widening trade imbalance skewed in favour of China remains a major worry for Indian policy makers.
