Praveen Manjhi, the son of former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, on Sunday claimed innocence after getting detained by the police with over Rs. four lakh cash.
He said that the cash recovered from him was to be used for his under-construction house in Patna.
"I was travelling from Gaya to Patna and was having Rs. 4,65,000 in cash. My house in Hanuman Nagar (Patna) is under construction and I was taking this money for that," said Praveen Majhi.
"I had borrowed this money from my mother and brothers," he added.
Manjhi was detained by the police in Bihar's Jehanabad region earlier this afternoon.
Manjhi has been detained as the Model Code of Conduct is effective in the state ahead of the assembly polls.
