Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bhagwant Mann on Thursday dubbed the attack on an elderly Sikh-American in Chicago as extremely unfortunate and asked the concerned authorities to take this issue seriously.

"It is sad that a Sikh is attacked in Chicago. It is not for the first time that such an incident has taken place. The people misunderstand us as terrorists because of our outlook," said Mann.

"Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should raise this issue so that such incidents do not happen in the future. The External Affairs Ministry must also take this seriously," he added.

An elderly Sikh-American man was brutally injured and called "terrorist" and "Bin Laden" in an apparent hate crime case in Chicago.

Inderjit Singh Mukker, a US citizen, was assaulted on Tuesday.
