A Maoist leader belonging to the Peoples Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) was beaten to death on Saturday by irate villagers in West Bengal's Jhargram district.
Villagers of Nedabahara area of Jhargram district killed Hemanta Mahanta, a local Maoist leader after he entered their village issuing another threat.
According to eyewitnesses and residents, the villagers had issued a warning to Hemanta Mahanta, not to come to their village again.
"He was a Maoist and he was in prison for some time. After he was released I told him not to come back to the village because the villagers were angry for him. So he became a mason worker and was living his father-in-law's house. We didn't have much communication but today I heard about his death," said brother of the victim, Simanta Mahanta.
Police officials had recovered the body and had started their probe into this case.
