Suspected Maoists killed two farmers in Narayanpatna block of Odisha's Koraput District after an alleged civil dispute.
The farmers were attacked in their paddy threshing field in Bagem village about three kilomters from Narayanpatna police station on January 8.
The bodies of Siba Habika (60) and Linga Habika (30) were found on Thursday morning with their throats slit.
Police suspected personal enmity to be the cause behind the murders, but the villagers suspect that this is the brutality of Maoist who dominate the area and kill people while carrying out violence activities every day in the area.
"The cause of death could not be ascertained as of now but from the preliminary investigation it is ascertained that the murder was caused due to civil dispute. The involvement of Naxals may not be ruled out but we are looking after the points whether the Naxals have a hand or not," said sub-divisional police officer, Jalandhar Jali.
On January 6, the armed rebels had also attacked two villagers from Balipeta village in Narayanpatna block after branding them as police informers.
The Maoists, who say they are fighting for the rights of the poor and landless, control some of India's mineral-rich areas and operate in large swathes of the eastern, central and southern countryside.
The Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since the 1960s.
The rebels are estimated to number 7000 hardcore fighters in nearly a third of India's 630 districts.
