Hundreds of school children and residents of Bhopal participated in a marathon, Mission for Mother, on Sunday.
Organised by members of an old age home, Apna Ghar, the marathon took place with the intention of reminding people of their mother's sacrifices and so that no mother is sent to an old age home when she needs her children the most.
Students of class ten and above and city residents from all sections of the society participated in the seven-kilometre mini-marathon.
"This event, Mission for Mother, has happened before as well. I am a part of this for the first time. This is a unique initiative, because a mother has always been on her toes for her kids. She makes sure that all their requirements are met, whether it is regarding food, career or simply life. A mother's marathon for her child is and will always be infinite. But today, Mission for Mother Founder, Sushil Aggarwal, has started a new mission and we are indebted to him for this. We should be proud to be there for our mother," said a staff member of the old age home, Madhuri Mishra.
The event focused on making people aware of the life a mother lives for her children. Present at the event were senior women citizens who live in an old age home. They were also honoured by the members of Mission for Mother.
"It is said that a mother never retires, she's always available for her children and she never gets tired of it. This makes our belief much stronger that we should run in the marathon for our mother. This marathon signifies that a child should always be available for her mother, to complete her demands we should be ever ready. Participating in this marathon proves that we are ready to be at the beck and call of our mother," said one of the participants at the marathon, Vibhanshu Joshi.
This was the first time that a sports event was organised as a tribute to mothers and senior women citizens in the city.
