Forward Anthony Martial scored a spectacular goal as Manchester United eased pressure on their manager Louis Van Gaal, by brushing aside Stoke City 3-0 in the Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
Midfielder Jesse Lingard opened his side's account in the 14th minute before Martial smashed the second goal for City from the far corner just nine minutes later.
Skipper Wayne Rooney scored the third goal for the hosts few minutes after the start of the second half to pile further misery on Stoke City.
Rooney, who has an overall goal tally of 244, is now just five short of Bobby Charlton's record of 249.
Meanwhile, in other league clash, surprise leaders Leicester City continued their winning momentum as they claimed a 2-0 win over Liverpool.
United, who are currently standing at the fifth spot in the league standings, will now lock horns with Chelsea on February 7.
