German golf ace Martin Kaymer bagged the US Open title, making a return to the elite in golf as he closed with a 1-under 69 for an eight shot victory over Rickie Fowler and Erik Compton.

Kaymer reportedly turned the toughest test of golf into a runaway at Pinehurst No. 2 on Monday to become the only seventh wire-to-wire winner in 114 years of the US Open.

According to Stuff.co.nz, Kaymer was the only player from the last eight groups to break par allowing no one to get closer than four shots over the final 48 holes.

The German was kept from joining Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as the only players to finish a US Open in double digits under par due to a late bogey.

Compton, who earned a trip to the Masters next April, said that no one was catching Kaymer this week, adding that he was playing for second and feels that all the other players were playing for second only.
