The Union government has announced the construction of a 'Martyrs of Freedom Struggle' memorial here in the capital and will be writing to all states and union territories, asking them to construct such a memorial in their respective capitals as well.
Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home, addressing the first meeting of the newly constituted Committee of Eminent Freedom Fighters at Port Blair today said that the Centre would take all possible steps for ensuring the welfare of Freedom Fighters.
Rijiju also added that the government has agreed to reimburse the medical expenses of Freedom Fighters who take treatment under emergency conditions in private hospitals.
