A massive fire broke out in Bokaro's Dhundibad market early this morning damaging goods worth at least Rs 30 lakh. No casualties or injuries have been reported till now.
An official from the fire department said that more than a hundred shops were saved due to the timely intervention of the firemen. The shops in the market were fully stocked ahead of the 'Chhath puja' festival.
"At least 10-15 shops have been burnt completely and we saved 100-150 shops from being completely engulfed by flames. It is not yet clear how the fire started," said Rakesh Tiwari, a fire official.
A local shopkeeper, however, said that a lamp may have started the fire.
"We started throwing buckets of water from the sewer at the fire. We think the fire may have been caused by a lamp which may have been left unattended by someone. Every shop here has at least Rs 1-2 lakh worth of goods," added Prithvi Saav, a shopkeeper.
