Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager on a five-year deal, with the Argentine resigning from Southampton after 18 months with the club.

Pochettino, who took over at Southampton in January 2013 and led them to their highest ever finish in the Premier League last season, becomes Tottenham's 10th manager since 2001 and replaces Tim Sherwood who was sacked on May 13.

According to the BBC, Pochettino said that Tottenham is a club with 'tremendous history and prestige' and added that he is honoured to have been given this opportunity to be its head coach.

Stating that there is an abundance of top-class talent at the club, Pochettino further said that he is looking forward to starting work with the squad, adding that Tottenham has a huge fan following across the world.

The report mentioned that Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez all earned their first England caps under Pochettino as the club secured notable wins over top-flight sides Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Hailing the former Southampton boss, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said that he has a proven ability to develop each player as an individual, whilst building great team spirit and a winning mentality.
