BSP supremo Mayawati today paid a visit to the family members of the teenage Dalit girls who were found hanging from a tree after being gangraped in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.

The former UP chief minister visited the spot where the bodies of the teenage victims were found.

She said, "The Samajwadi Party wanted to put this incident into cold storage but as soon as they got to know that I will be visiting the village, they immediately announced a CBI inquiry."

Mayawati said that the Badaun district in UP is reeling under a crime wave where criminals are roaming free. She demanded security for the family of the victims and said that it was the Central government's responsibility now to ensure that the family gets justice.

Mayawati also announced that her party would provide a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the fathers of the deceased cousins. She asked the police to discharge their duties properly and not give into pressure when dealing with criminal complaints.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had also visited the parents of the deceased girls yesterday.
