Unbeaten US boxing champion Floyd Mayweather was saved from being charged with a crime in an alleged choking case after a 19-year-old close family friend reportedly filed a police report claiming that the boxer had put him in a chokehold during a 2014 argument.
The Las Vegas Metro Police revealed that Devion Cromwell, who is the son of the American boxer's former girlfriend Melissa Brim, initially reported that Mayweather had put him in a 'rear naked choke' at the boxer's Vegas mansion on Halloween night, TMZ.com reported.
However, when investigators tried to contact Cromwell to follow up on the case, the police claim that he stopped cooperating, essentially stopping the investigation in its tracks.
The police claimed that they eventually closed the case.
A rep for the Clark County District Attorney's office also revealed that the case was never presented to them for prosecution. The statute of limitations on the case is reportedly one year from the incident, so, if Cromwell has a change of heart and wants to press the case he still has some time left.
