Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum, who plays for Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League (IPL , will miss the last three matches of his team of the tournament after suffering a left hamstring strain against Delhi Daredevils on Thursday.

In a tweet, McCullum stated that the "compressed tournament and long travel" had taken a toll.

"Injuries are not ideal but part of our sport. Compressed tournament & long travel can be gruelling. Sorry for not being there all the way," the former New Zealand skipper tweeted.

It is reported that McCullum has been advised three-four weeks of intensive rehabilitation so as to not aggravate the damage in his hamstring.

The 35-year-old has scored 330 runs in 11 games with two half-centuries at a strike rate of 145.50.

Lions were knocked out of contention for playoffs after their seven-wicket defeat to Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
