Former world number one John McEnroe has said that Wimbledon champion Andy Murray must make every shot count and be prepared for pain when he faces Rafael Nadal in the French Open semifinals on Friday.

Defending champion Nadal has won eight singles titles at Roland Garros and has only lost once in 65 matches at the clay court.

According to the BBC, McEnroe said that every shot matter and it is going to be a battle, adding that one has got to accept that they are going to feel pain, but one has to convince himself that that feels good and if he gets past that, he has a shot.

McEnroe revealed that the tie is a repeat of May's Italian Open semifinal, which Murray lost in three sets despite looking 'real good'.

The American, who won seven Grand Slams but was only ever a runner-up at the French Open, said that if Murray is not able to get to the final, he would still be able to use that confidence at Wimbledon.

Murray defeated Frenchman Gael Monfils in five sets to win 6-4, 6-1, 4-6, 1-6, 6-0 in the quarterfinals to face Nadal, who beat Spanish compatriot David Ferrer 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, 6-1, in the semifinals of the French Open, the report added.
