Northern Irish golf ace Rory McIlroy has said that he does not play for money any more and that a European Ryder Cup win at Gleneagles would mean a lot more to him.
Winning the PGA Tour's 6 million pounds FedEx Cup bonus in Atlanta does not mean much to McIlroy than a European Ryder Cup win at Gleneagles.
McIlroy is fourth in the FedEx standings behind Chris Kirk, Billy Horschel and Bubba Watson with victory for any of the top five at the Tour Championship guaranteeing the payout, The BBC reported.
However, the world number one said the FedEx Cup title was also more important than the cash bonus that comes with it.
McIlroy has finished 22nd, fifth and eighth in the first three play-offs and he also four-putted the 12th hole in each of the last two rounds at the BMW Championship in Denver last week.
The Northern Irishman said that being in the top five was important coming in, as one knows what one needs to do. He added that he would have liked to be a bit higher on the list but haven't played well enough over the past few weeks.
McIlroy said that he does not think the money would make him any more nervous on the golf course on Sunday, but added that winning the FedEx is one of the only things that he has not achieved in the game of golf and that's the real reason he wants to win this week.
