Northern Irish golf ace Rory McIlroy saw the funny side of American singer-songwriter Neil Diamond's song 'Sweet Caroline' as the song was played during a rugby match.

'Sweet Caroline' was played during the half-time interval of Ulster's math against Connacht and the world number one golf player couldn't help but smile when he listened to the song, the BBC reported.

McIlroy, who broke off his engagement with tennis player Caroline Wozniacki in May 2014, was reportedly in the middle of a television interview when spectators starting singing along as Diamond's song came over the public address system.

The Northern Irishman responded by smiling sheepishly, looking down at the ground and exclaiming 'Oh dear', the report added.
