Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy has reportedly split from PR company Horizon Sports Management to create his own management company.

The former world number one had joined his Ryder Cup partner Graeme McDowell at Horizon after leaving the long-established International Management Group (IMG) just four months after winning his first major championship, the US Open.

According to Sport24, although McIlroy had denied speculation in May that he would be leaving Horizon to create his own PR firm, McDowell however, said that the two-time major-winner had decided on his second management change since October 2011.

Confirming the split, a statement on McIlroy's own website said that the golfer's business interests will from now on be managed by his own management company named Rory McIlroy Incorporated.

The report mentioned that McIlroy, who changed clubs towards the end of 2012 and joined Nike in a multi-million pounds deal, is currently taking part in the ongoing European Tour event at St Andrews after failing to qualify for the Tour Championship on the US PGA Tour last week.

Swedish player Henrik Stenson's victory in the season-ending Tour Championship took him to fourth in the world rankings and knocked McIlroy down to sixth place, the report added.
