Former South African wicketkeeper Mark Boucher wants Ryan McLaren to replace Jacques Kallis as an allrounder in the South African Test team.
Kallis retired from Test cricket following South Africa's series victory over India, leaving a big all-rounder void as the Proteas prepare for a three-Test home series against Australia next month.
The 30-year old was selected for a Champions Trophy world team upon the conclusion of the ICC event in June and was also named player of the ODI-series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, Sport24 reports.
McLaren has played in 40 ODIs and one Test. A vastly experienced player at the first-class level, he has scored 3 860 runs and has captured 329 wickets in 103 matches.
Boucher said Ryan is extremely experienced and brave cricketer with a sound technique.
He further said Ryan also has the ability to dry up one end like Kallis, and added that he will be able to play the role which Kallis performed for the team.
