Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) workers staged a protest here on Wednesday against Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's visit to India and in particular to the Tirupati Temple to offer his prayers.

The Andhra Pradesh Police had earlier on Tuesday prevented several MDMK activists, from entering the state. Several MDMK cadres were also detained by the police.

Earlier in the day, Rajapaksa offered prayers at the Lord Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati, where he performed Suprabhatam, the first temple service of the day.

Earlier on Monday, Vaiko-led MDMK had snapped ties with the BJP while criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for wishing Rajapaksa victory in the elections in Sri Lanka.
