Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Venkaiah Naidu said here on Tuesday that it's better to discuss issues like the Meerut gang rape in the state assembly rather than the parliament because the central government cannot take directly any action in any of these cases unless there is a total constitutional breakdown.
"The law and order is basically state issue and the state government has to take care of them. Sometimes those issues are also raised in parliament but at the same time my general observation is that it's better to discuss these issues in the state assembly rather than parliament because the central government cannot take directly any action in any of these cases unless there is a total constitutional breakdown," said Naidu.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajendra Agarwal also condemned the incident saying that this can be a human trafficking issue also and the girl should get justice.
Shamina Shafiq from the National Commission for Women (NCW) added that the police needs to take this issue very seriously as first there was a rape and to top that conversion of religion.
A 20-year-old teacher of Hindi and English in the Sarawa village madrasa in Kharkhauda had claimed that she was gang-raped and forced to adopt the religion of a particular community and to change her name.
The woman reportedly managed to escape from the kidnappers on August 2. Afterwards, she contacted her family who rescued her. A complaint was also filed later with the police.
