Meeting of Cabinet Subcommittee on promoting digital payments in Telangana held

The first meeting of Cabinet Subcommittee on promoting digital payments in Telangana was held at Secretariat on Monday, which was chaired by Information Technology, Industries and MAUD Minister K.T. Rama Rao and attended by ministers Etela Rajender, Jagadish Reddy, Jupally Krishna Rao, and Mahender Reddy attended the meeting.

Rao in his opening remarks said, "CM KCR is one of the first CMs to take a holistic approach towards demonetisation. The Telangana government is taking a series of steps to promote digital payments in the state. The ultimate aim of these measures is to ensure ease of transactions for the citizens and also improve transparency in various government and private transactions."

 

He said, "The first village to go cashless in the state is Ibrahimpur, where a combination of UPI, POS Machines, Rupay Cards and QR Code-based payments systems were used. Imparting digital payment literacy and ensuring security of user data is of paramount importance in this whole exercise."

Minister also opined that the citizens should have the ability to transact on all platforms with equal ease. He said interoperability between various banking and financial institutions are the key. Minister KTR also gave a high-level overview of the proposed T-Wallet app. Minister said that this payment system is being designed keeping all kinds of users in mind. Minister urged the govt officials and also bankers participating in the meeting to ensure that the transition from cash payments to digital payments is smooth for the citizen.

I-T Secretary Jayesh Ranjan gave a detailed presentation on the proposed 'T-Wallet' and said the proposed T-Wallet will have state-of-the-art features and also inbuilt security measures.

Ranjan also informed the participants that a massive digital payment literacy campaign was launched on December 7 across the state.

Suresh Chanda, who heads the state taskforce on Digital Payments, gave an overview of the various findings of the taskforce and the strategy to be followed to promote digital payments in the state.

Senior government officials, representatives from various banks, financial institutions also participated in the meeting.
