Meghalaya Police has confirmed rescuing abducted truck driver Bittu Patel from 9th mile Amrigog, Guwahati.
Patel was abducted by suspected militants at Rongthra village, near Baghmara in South Garo Hills on Friday last and was rescued by Meghalaya police early on Monday morning from Chokpot area.
Patel was the driver of truck bearing license plate no. - ML 05 F - 3787.
Superintendent of Police South Garo Hills Anand Mishra said, "We had launched an operation led by SWAT commandos yesterday based on source information and have rescued Patel unhurt".
Mishra said that there was fierce exchange of fire with the abductors at Thenki Badimagre village, near Silkigre area under Chokpot Police Station and Patel was rescued at 8 a.m.
In the operation, three abductors were arrested, identified as Vendut Sangma, Silseng Ch. Marak, Trorick G. Momin.
