Melissa Benoist has been cast as Supergirl CBS' upcoming TV show.
The 26-year-old 'Glee' and 'Whiplash' star, who will pay the titular role as Superman's cousin, Kara Zor-El, in the series by Greg Berlanit and Ali Adler, took to Twitter to share her good news writing "I wish there was a superhero emoji", E! Online reported.
The show would follow Supergirl from Krypton as Kara Zor-El aka Kara Danvers, After escaping the destruction of Krypton, Kara has been hiding her powers, but at the age of 24 she decides to embrace the abilities and be the hero she was destined to be.
CBS boss Nina Tassler told the press that for their network, they responded to the character's humanity, which would make her imminently relatable and made the story exciting, and adventurous.
Oscar winner designer Colleen Atwood did the costumes and Berlanti, Adler and Sarah Schechter would be the executive producers.
Characters in the new CBS show, which would the network's first superhero TV series in years, include Jimmy Olsen, Cat Grant and Alex Danvers, Kara's foster sister.
